Managing When Your Connected Bank Updates
Quick Review
What: Control how often your bank accounts update in Quicken Simplifi
Why: Reduce daily MFA requests or limit update frequency for specific banks
How: Settings > Accounts > Three dots > Manage updates
Note: Settings apply to entire bank, not individual accounts
Overview
When you connect your bank to Quicken Simplifi, your accounts update every time you sign in. If you're tired of daily multi-factor authentication (MFA) requests or simply don't need constant updates from certain banks, you can adjust the update frequency.
Ashley discovered this feature after growing frustrated with daily MFA prompts from their credit union. Since they only use that account for quarterly tax payments, daily updates were unnecessary and the constant authentication requests interrupted their workflow.
Setting Update Intervals
Steps to Change Update Frequency:
Click on Settings (lower left)
Click Accounts
Locate the bank you want to update and click the three dots to the right
Click Manage updates
Select the Set Max Update Interval that works for you:
Always
Daily
Weekly
Monthly
Never (manual refresh only)
Click Save Updates
Visual Indicators
Once you change a bank's update interval, an icon appears:
On your Dashboard under Accounts (right of affected accounts)
In the top right corner of affected account pages
Clicking this icon lets you quickly change the update interval without returning to Settings.
Important Considerations
Bank-Wide Setting: This setting applies to ALL accounts at that bank. You cannot set different intervals for individual accounts at the same institution.
Manual Updates: Even with restricted intervals, you can update accounts manually in two ways:
Global Refresh: Click Refresh on the lower left to update all accounts
Bank-Specific Update: Click into any account from that bank and click Last Updated (top right) to update all accounts at that specific bank
Ashley's Update Strategy
Ashley uses different intervals based on account activity:
Primary checking/credit cards: Always (need real-time data)
Tax savings account: Monthly (only used quarterly)
Old savings account: Never (checks manually when needed)
This approach eliminated most MFA frustrations while keeping important accounts current.
When to Adjust Updates
Consider reducing update frequency if:
You rarely use certain accounts
MFA requests are disruptive
An account is only for long-term savings
You're experiencing connection issues with a specific bank
Keep frequent updates for:
Primary checking accounts
Active credit cards
Accounts you monitor closely
Banks with fraud concerns
The Bottom Line
Managing connection updates in Quicken Simplifi helps balance security, convenience, and current data. While daily updates ensure accuracy, reducing frequency for less-active accounts can significantly improve your user experience. Remember, you can always manually refresh when needed.
