How do I use the Payment Details window?

The Payment Details window helps you manage and understand your loan payments in Quicken. Once your loan account is set up, this view breaks down your monthly payment into principal and interest and projects your full payoff schedule over the life of the loan.

Use this view to:

  • See how much of each payment goes to principal versus interest.

  • Monitor progress toward payoff with a detailed monthly schedule.

  • Make changes to payment amounts or schedules when needed.

View your monthly loan payment details

The Payment Details tab shows a breakdown of your monthly payment, including:

  • Principal: The portion applied to reduce your loan balance.

  • Interest: The cost of borrowing for the current period.

Use the Edit payment details button to update loan terms such as your next due date, principal, interest, and optional extra payments.

Edit your loan payment details

  1. Click the Payment Details tab in your loan account.

  2. Select Edit payment details.

  3. In the Loan Details dialog, update:

    • Next payment due date

    • Principal, Interest, or Other fields

    • Optional extra principal paid monthly

  4. Choose whether:

    • The extra principal determines total, or

    • The total determines extra principal

  5. Click OK to save changes.

This is useful if your monthly payment changes, or if you're paying extra toward your loan to reduce interest over time.

  • Your upcoming payments
